Vahina Giocante or The Tragedy of an Actress

Vahina Giocante on a cloudy sunset

In a very moving interview given to Sept à huit on TF1, Vahina Giocante revealed the sexual violence she suffered at the hands of her father during her childhood. These revelations are also detailed in her book, À corps ouvert (Open Body in French), which will be released on March 28, 2024. The actress from 99 francs describes a past marked by incest and manipulation.

From the age of four or five, Vahina was a victim of her father, for years. "These hugs that tip over," as she describes them, have left indelible marks. "The disgust" felt in the face of these crimes leads the actress on a quest for justice and a two-decade therapy.

A complaint filed against her father resulted in his conviction, but the path to healing was long and lonely. Like many victims, Vahina had to face the disbelief and rejection of her own family. She will cut off all contact with her father…

In the world of cinema, she will also experience abuses of power and degrading situations as an actress. Notably during a shoot with the director Benoît Jacquot, already accused by other actresses. She will refuse certain inappropriate demands unlike many young actresses helpless in this mercantile industry.

By publishing À corps ouvert, Vahina Giocante hopes to offer a message of hope and resilience to those who have experienced similar traumas. "We can get through it," she asserts, proving through her testimony that healing is possible, even after the darkest trials. Her book promises to be a cry from the heart to break the silence around incest and encourage the necessary speaking out.
