Disappointment for Game of Thrones Fans

Jon Snow, iconic character from the Game of Thrones series, on a mountain

The spin-off of Game of Thrones dedicated to Jon Snow, announced in 2022, will ultimately not see the light of day. It’s Kit Harington, the actor who played this key character in the saga, who shared this information in a recent interview with Screen Rant. According to the actor, the project was abandoned due to a lack of a sufficiently engaging story to justify its production.

"We explored various paths, but didn’t find one that excited us all. That’s why the project has been put aside for now."

Game of Thrones, aired from 2011 to 2019, remains a global cultural phenomenon, having set audience records for HBO. The success of this series has led to the creation of House of the Dragon, which had a historic start. It’s a prequel set two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones. Other derivative projects, like A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, are also in development.

The announcement of the abandonment of the spin-off on Jon Snow is a disappointment for fans, who were hoping to revisit the universe of Westeros through the eyes of their favorite hero. The universe of the series still promises many more adventures in the lands of George R.R. Martin.
