According to a recent, and rather well-selling, biography, Victoria Beckham would have preferred Kate Middleton over Meghan Markle well before the latter joined the royal family. The book reveals tensions between the fashion designer and the Duchess of Sussex.
According to the biographer, Victoria Beckham dressed Meghan Markle on several occasions without reaping the expected financial benefits. The first time, Meghan wore a full Victoria Beckham outfit at the royal Christmas service in 2018, worth a total of 7,000 euros. Another occasion in 2019, while pregnant, also saw Meghan in one of the designer’s dresses for a service at the Commonwealth.
Despite these appearances, sales of Victoria Beckham’s designs did not increase significantly. One journalist even reports that Meghan Markle was dismissive of Victoria Beckham, considering her beneath her because of her entry into royalty.
Revelations from a biographer indicate that Victoria Beckham was irritated by Meghan’s behavior, especially when Meghan realized the Beckhams were wealthier than she had thought. The Beckhams, with their multiple homes and access to private jets, exceeded Meghan’s expectations for the social hierarchy based on wealth and celebrity.
In 2020, for one of her last public appearances before Megxit, Meghan once again chose a Victoria Beckham outfit, an iconic blue dress. Yet this collaboration did not improve relations between the two women.
Tensions between the Sussexes and the Beckhams do not seem close to easing, especially since Victoria and David Beckham have clearly shown their support for Kate and William. The rivalry between Meghan Markle and Victoria Beckham is far from settled, and relations remain strained.
