
The 81st international film festival of Venice, which will take place from August 28 to September 7, promises to attract a constellation of stars. Among the prestigious guests are Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Nicole Kidman.
The program, unveiled on July 23 by artistic director Alberto Barbera, includes 21 films competing for the Golden Lion. Among the most anticipated is Joker: Folie à deux by Todd Phillips, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.
Angelina Jolie will present Maria, where she portrays Maria Callas. George Clooney and Brad Pitt will be out of competition with Wolfs by Jon Watts. Pedro Almodóvar is competing with The Room Next Door, his first English-language film, while Nicole Kidman stars in Babygirl by Halina Reijn.
Three French films are in the selection: Leurs enfants après eux by the Boukherma brothers, Jouer avec le feu by the Coulin sisters, and Trois amies by Emmanuel Mouret. Claude Lelouch will present Finalement out of competition.
Italy will be represented by five films, including Queer by Luca Guadagnino with Daniel Craig. Iddu by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza retraces the life of Matteo Messina Denaro.
The festival will open with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice by Tim Burton, promising a memorable red carpet with Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder.
The jury, chaired by the great Isabelle Huppert, will award several prizes on September 7, including the Golden Lion and the Silver Lion. The Venice Film Festival once again promises to be an unmissable event in international cinema.
