The relationship between Brad Pitt and his children is, to say the least, complicated. Zahara and Vivienne have already announced that they no longer want to carry their father’s last name. Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt has taken it a step further. For her 18th birthday, on May 27, 2024, she asked the Los Angeles County Superior Court to remove the Pitt name from her surname.
Shiloh now wants to be called Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. She is the first of the siblings to make such a request in court. A source close to the situation says Angelina Jolie cannot oppose this decision, since Shiloh is now an adult.
Shiloh hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself, which prevents Angelina Jolie from communicating with him. Brad Pitt had hoped to grow closer to his daughter as she got older, but the opposite is happening.
The relationship between Brad Pitt and his children has worsened since a serious confrontation with his ex-wife in 2016. Angelina Jolie accused Brad Pitt of physical assault during a private jet flight. Other allegations mention abuse toward his children. After a long legal battle, Brad Pitt had obtained joint custody, which was later overturned.
Shiloh, a dance student, has already removed the Pitt name from her social media profiles. Her decision to change her name marks a new step in the family tensions. Vivienne and Zahara have already taken similar steps by using only the Jolie name. Pax, their brother, publicly criticized Brad Pitt in November 2023, further intensifying the family tensions.
