Oscars 2024: The Disappointment of Ryan Gosling, The Ken Without His Barbie

Nomination of Ryan Gosling for the 2024 Oscars for the film Barbie but solo

Ryan Gosling, famous for his role in the movie Barbie, expressed his disappointment regarding the artists nominated for the 2024 Oscars.

The actor, photographed in London in July 2023, highlighted the absence of individual nominations for director Greta Gerwig and lead actress Margot Robbie.

In a statement released by CNN and then relayed by several media outlets, Gosling said: "There is no Ken without Barbie". He was referring to his character in the movie, Ken, and the importance of Barbie, portrayed by Margot Robbie and the vision of Greta Gerwig.

Despite his nomination for best actor, Gosling felt that Gerwig and Robbie’s work should have been recognized in the best director and best actress categories.

Gosling added: "To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement". He highlighted the remarkable work of Gerwig and Robbie, who brought to life a historic and famous movie. He emphasized their ability to create a humorous and emotional work from initially superficial doll characters.

The movie Barbie received eight Oscar nominations including those for best adapted screenplay and best cinematography. However, the absence of Gerwig and Robbie in the major categories has sparked disappointment and irony among fans and critics. Indeed, the movie deals with the difficulties encountered by women in gaining recognition and respect in the professional world.
