Former rap star Moha La Squale, whose real name is Mohamed Bellahmed, has been sentenced to four years in prison, including one year suspended, for domestic violence, unlawful confinement, and death threats against six former partners. The Paris court ordered that he remain in custody; he had already spent nearly seventeen months in prison.
Released in 2023, Moha La Squale returned to custody in February for failing to comply with his judicial supervision requirements. He will have to undergo psychological treatment and address his cannabis addiction. He is also banned from contacting his victims, whom he must each compensate in the amount of €2,500 to €10,000.
His lawyer welcomed a "balanced" and "smart" decision, pointing to the support planned for the artist. Since the events, Moha La Squale has changed a lot, according to her. The complainants expressed relief, with some hoping to turn the page and feel better.
During the trial, the rapper denied his former partners’ accusations, accused them of lying, and claimed there was a conspiracy. However, the court noted a pattern of recurring violence from 2017 to 2021, including psychological abuse and physical mistreatment. Three of the victims were also unlawfully confined.
The prosecution had requested six years in prison, including two suspended, stressing the defendant’s lack of self-reflection. The prosecutor described Moha La Squale as a man with a "split personality": gentle and affectionate, but able to become violent and paranoid in an instant. The court decided to impose psychological monitoring to prevent any repeat offense.
