Supported by Harry, Meghan Markle Reveals Her Struggles with Cyberbullying

Harry head down and Meghan Buckingham

« If my story can save someone, it’s worth it… » On the occasion of her 43rd birthday, Meghan Markle gave an interview with Harry to CBS to launch their program The Parents Network, as part of the Archewell foundation. This initiative aims to support parents whose children have been victims of cyberbullying, a subject dear to the Duchess of Sussex.

Meghan Markle herself was traumatized by a smear campaign via the tabloids when she joined the Windsors. The press commented on her every move, especially her family conflicts. This deep crisis led her to suicidal thoughts, as she recalled during the interview. « When you have experienced any level of pain or trauma, I believe part of the healing journey is being able to talk about it openly, » the Duchess of Sussex reminded.

The affair dates back to 2018, when Meghan married Prince Harry. Under pressure, she struggled to cope, especially when the Daily Mail published her correspondence with her father. In the December 2022 Netflix documentary, she confided: « I thought ‘if I’m not here anymore, all this will stop’. It’s scary, it’s such a clear thought. »

Harry, distraught, hastened his decision to flee Buckingham. Even Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, felt powerless. « I remember she told me she wanted to take her own life. Being constantly tortured by these vultures… It was her soul they were torturing, » she testified in the documentary.

This Sunday, August 4, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry gave an interview to CBS. They talked about the launch of Parents Network, a campaign to improve children’s safety on the Internet. Meghan also spoke about her relationship with her children, Archie and Lilibet, whom she wishes to protect from cyberbullying. The Sussex couple has adopted a radical policy by keeping them away from the media and social networks.

Meghan Markle was candid about her suicidal thoughts, not wishing them on anyone.
