The 71st edition of Miss World, which took place in Mumbai, India on March 9, saw the victory of Krystyna Pyszkova, representative of the Czech Republic. Initially scheduled for December 2023, the competition was postponed, ultimately gathering candidates from different regions of the world.
Krystyna Pyszkova, a law and business administration student, stood out among 112 participants. At 24 years old and 1.80m tall, she not only shone with her beauty, but also with her social commitment, having founded her own organization to support the education of underprivileged children in Tanzania. She also raised awareness among the jury and the public about the importance of breaking the taboo surrounding menstruation.
Despite strong competition, the French Clémence Botino, Miss France 2020, failed to make it into the Top 12, finishing however in the Top 40. The last French victory at Miss World dates back to 1953 with Denise Perrier.
Even though beauty pageants are accused of sexism, this edition aims to be marked by a strong message about women’s education and health, showing that beauty also lies in commitment and intelligence. Krystyna Pyszkova thus succeeds the Polish Karolina Bielawska, beginning her reign with ambitious projects for the coming year.
