Apple closed its keynote on September 9, 2025 after 1 hour and 12 minutes of polished images and very concrete promises. At 7 PM (Paris time), Tim Cook set the tone: iPhones everywhere, a Watch focusing on health, AirPods translating on the fly. Pre-orders Friday, September 12 and release Friday, September 19 for the iPhones; for the Watch and AirPods, pre-orders starting today.
What Apple Officially Announced on September 9, 2025
The conference was broadcast on YouTube, as well as on the Apple website. It ended around 8:12 PM.
The Apple iPhone 17 lineup now includes four models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. 120 Hz screens are becoming standard.
The AirPods Pro 3 gain a heart rate sensor and instant translation via Apple Intelligence (iOS 26).
On the watch side, Apple Watch Series 11, SE 3, and Ultra 3 advance health and endurance, with satellite features for the Ultra.
Pre-orders September 12; iPhone 17 release date: September 19, 2025 (including France). Detailed prices in euros are yet to be specified model by model, except for the AirPods Pro 3 announced at €249. (Watch and AirPods: pre-orders open from September 9.)
iPhone 17: 120 Hz from the Entry Level, A19 and 256 GB Minimum
The "classic" model gets larger (screen 6.3 inches), adopts ProMotion (up to 120 Hz) and a reinforced glass compared to last year.
Under the hood, it will be the A19 chip: even faster; Apple promises +2 hours of battery life and 256 GB of base storage.
In terms of photography, Apple highlights a 48 MP main sensor and a 48 MP ultra-wide-angle, with a 2x “optical-quality” zoom. Selfie revamped, assisted framing in FaceTime.
iPhone 17 Air & eSIM: the Ultra-Thin (5.6 mm) Takes a Step Aside
Announced as "all-new," the iPhone 17 Air is 0.56 cm thick, with titanium edges and a minimalist design. eSIM only (no SIM tray), including in France.
- A19 Pro chip and C1X modem designed by Apple to optimize reception and battery life.
- N1 chip (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread) for local connectivity.
- Accessories: dedicated MagSafe battery and ultra-thin case “< 1 mm”.
Photo: 48 MP Fusion and 2x “optical-quality” zoom; the key argument remains elsewhere: the weight, the handling, and a battery life announced as "remarkable" despite the thinness.
iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max: Three 48 MP Sensors, 4K at 120 fps, Revised Cooling
The "expert" models cater to creators: Dolby HDR capture and 4K up to 120 fps, new rectangular photo block covering the upper part, LiDAR and flash separated. A19 Pro under the hood, revised cooling (vapor chamber) to avoid the "burning" effect.
- Zoom: up to 8x “optical zoom” (including 4x at 100 mm).
- Genlock: video synchronization frame by frame via Final Cut Camera, ideal for content creators doing multi-cam.
- Glass: Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and back.
- Battery life: Apple claims the "best battery" ever seen on an iPhone, up to 39 hours of video playback (manufacturer’s figure).
- Colors: a strong orange hue makes its appearance.
- Accessories: new Techwoven cases, supposed replacements for FineWoven.
The Pro Max pushes the screen to 6.9 inches and assumes a thicker chassis to accommodate sensors and battery.
Apple Watch Series 11, SE 3, and Ultra 3: Health as a Common Thread
The Series 11 claims to be "the thinnest" of the Apple Watches, 2× more scratch-resistant, and announces up to 24 hours of battery life. It introduces a 5G modem and a set of new watch faces.
On health: Detection of signs of hypertension (background measurements over 30 days) and sleep score. Feature available in 150 countries, France included, subject to regulators.
The Apple Watch SE 3 (with S10 chip) arrives on September 19 with 5G for the entry-level, pre-orders starting today.
The Ultra 3 adds bi-directional satellite communications (messages and SOS, free for 2 years), a screen with thinner borders and aims for up to 42 hours of battery life, 5G included.
AirPods Pro 3: Instant Translation, Heart Rate, and Comfort
Third generation officially announced: similar design, noise reduction claimed to be 2× more effective than on the Pro 2, heart rate sensor, near real-time translation via Apple Intelligence and iOS 26.
- Tips: five sizes, texture revised for fit (foam and silicone depending on packs).
- Battery life: up to 8 hours with noise reduction; 10 hours in transparency mode.
- Case: redesigned internal architecture, revised charging and ergonomics.
- Price: €249 in France, pre-orders starting today, release September 19.
iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence: Tangible Features and a Measured Narrative
Apple advances cautiously on AI — perhaps less comfortable here than in hardware-software integration. iOS 26 harmonizes the interface and deploys Apple Intelligence in small touches: translation via AirPods, assisted photo retouching, new automations, etc. Release announced for Monday, September 15, 2025. The tone remains pragmatic, focused on the user experience above all.
The Springs of a Lasting Success
Without judgment, we find the usual markers:
- Vertical integration: A19/A19 Pro chips, software, hardware, services; optimization of performance-battery life-security.
- Finish: choice of materials, work on volumes, handling. The resale value remains a central asset.
- Ecosystem: iPhone, Watch, AirPods, iCloud, Apple TV+, Fitness+: a continuity of services that retains without forcing.
- Narrative: demonstrations centered on uses (photo, sport, health) more than on numbers.
- Second life: trade-in, refurbished, subscriptions — a cycle that amortizes the entry cost and greens the perception.
Consumption: Uses in France and Elsewhere
In France, renewal is spread out (24–36 months), driven by installment payments with operators and trade-ins. The refurbished market is significant, for budgetary as well as ecological reasons. The eSIM is progressing quickly; an iPhone without a SIM tray (like the Air) should not be disconcerting for long.
Elsewhere, premiumization is confirmed: people buy higher, less often. Operator bundles (United States, Japan) and subscription to services seal the ecosystem. In Europe, repairability and interoperability rules (USB-C, DMA) influence the consumer electronics market. The support duration of iOS remains a key argument.
