Since Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race, she has emerged as the Democratic Party’s standard-bearer. Her experience as a senator and attorney general of California is significant. In addition, her four years as vice president make her a strong and experienced candidate.
Tim Walz, 60, has been governor of Minnesota since 2018. Before his political career, he served in the Army National Guard and was a geography teacher and American football coach. Known for his skillful management and pragmatic approach, he managed to win reelection. And this in a district that had traditionally been Republican for twelve years. As governor, he has taken progressive measures such as free meals at public universities. In addition, he has banned conversion therapy.
The Harris-Walz campaign will kick off tonight with a rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and continue in other battleground states. Their goal is to show how well they complement each other and to appeal to a broader electorate, especially rural voters and WASPs.
Donald Trump and his campaign team wasted no time responding. Calling Tim Walz a "dangerous far-left extremist," they hope to sow doubt in voters’ minds. Trump, who chose J.D. Vance as his running mate in July, has not had the same success. Vance has sparked several controversies, already weakening the Republican campaign.
