In October 2023, Carla Bruni revealed on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. On the occasion of Pink October, she shared her journey and emphasized the importance of screening. Today, in an interview with Vanity Fair, she reveals that she is not yet in remission and continues her treatment.
Carla Bruni explains that cancer has transformed her life in unexpected ways. "Cancer opens new doors. You can still hear the bullets whistling past your ear! And after the initial shock, it’s almost invigorating, even though it’s painful, worrying, and distressing," she says. She continues her hormone treatment despite the difficult side effects.
The 56-year-old singer also spoke about her desire to see her 12-year-old daughter, Giulia, grow up. "Since then, I bless Tamoxifen every morning. I tell myself: what a wonder, I have this medication! I have a 12-year-old daughter: I want to see her grow up, grow up…", she confides.
Carla Bruni had already encouraged all women to have annual mammograms. Her cancer, detected in time, was not yet aggressive thanks to these regular exams. "If I hadn’t done this every year, I wouldn’t have my left breast today," she admitted.
Although her public life seems glamorous, Carla Bruni, who lit up the last Cannes Festival, continues to fight bravely against the disease.
