In March 2021, one year after leaving the British royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle accused some members of racism. Buckingham Palace then responded with a statement, including a key phrase signed by Kate Middleton.
Since their departure from the United Kingdom in 2020, relations between Harry, Meghan, and several members of the royal family have been strained. One year after leaving England, the parents of Archie and Lilibet gave an exclusive interview to Oprah Winfrey, where they revealed unprecedented details about their life within the Firm. They accused some relatives of racism before the birth of their son, Archie, mentioning "concerns and conversations about the color of the baby’s skin."
At the time, Buckingham responded with a statement, in which a scathing phrase was attributed to Kate Middleton: "While some recollections may vary." This statement, initially more moderate, was toughened by William and Catherine, according to Robert Jobson in his book Catherine the Princess of Wales, available on August 1, 2024.
More recent revelations indicate that Kate Middleton and Charles III were directly accused of racism in the Dutch version of the book Endgame by Omid Scobie. Although these claims have never been confirmed, Meghan Markle might be forced to reveal the names of the individuals involved in court, as part of a lawsuit filed by her sister, Samantha Markle.
